Swags
A swag is simple, tough and quick. It packs down small, costs the least and is perfect for solo travellers or quick overnight trips. The trade-off is less comfort and weather protection than the alternatives.
Rooftop tents
A rooftop tent sets up fast, keeps you off the ground away from water and critters, and leaves your vehicle interior free. The downsides are the weight up high, the effect on fuel and handling, and that you pack it up every time you move camp.
Camper trailers
A camper trailer is the most comfortable for longer stays and families, with room for a proper bed, kitchen and storage. It costs more, needs somewhere to store it, and you tow it, which changes how the vehicle drives.
