4WD on rocky terrain

The underside of your 4WD takes a beating off-road. Rocks, ruts and stumps can punch through the vulnerable parts that keep you moving. Underbody protection is cheap insurance against an expensive, trip-ending repair.

What needs protecting

The key components are the sump, the transmission and transfer case, the fuel tank and the steering. A hole in any of these can strand you. Bash plates, also called sump or skid plates, shield them from impacts.

Steel vs alloy plates

Steel plates are the toughest for serious rock work but add weight. Alloy plates are lighter and still offer good protection for most touring. Choose based on the terrain you tackle and how much weight you want to carry.

Do not forget the basics

Protection is only part of the picture. Recovery points, good tyres and sensible driving keep you out of trouble in the first place. Plates are there for when the track bites back.

We fit bash plates and underbody protection to suit your travels. See our 4WD accessories work at our Stepney workshop, close to Marden, or book a time.
