Tyre pressure is the simplest thing on your car to get right, and one of the most important. A few minutes at the servo can improve safety, save fuel and add thousands of kilometres to your tyres.
Why pressure matters
Underinflated tyres flex too much, run hot and wear on the edges. They also lengthen your braking distance and use more fuel because the engine works harder. Overinflated tyres wear in the middle, give a harsher ride and reduce grip because less rubber touches the road.
What pressure should you run?
Use the figures on the placard, usually inside the driver’s door or in the fuel flap, not the maximum printed on the tyre. Add a little extra when carrying a heavy load or towing. Always check pressures when the tyres are cold for an accurate reading.
How often to check
About once a month and before any long trip is a good habit. Do not forget the spare. If a tyre keeps losing pressure, there may be a slow leak worth having checked.
We check and set pressures on every visit and can chase down slow leaks. Pop in for a tyre check at our Stepney workshop, close to Marden, or book online.
