4WD driving at dusk

Good auxiliary lighting transforms night driving on country roads, where wildlife and unlit corners are a real hazard. Here is how to choose driving lights or a light bar that actually helps.

Spot vs spread

Spot beams throw light far down the road, while spread or flood beams light up the edges and verges where animals appear. Many drivers run a combination, or a light bar with both, to get distance and width at once.

Driving lights or a light bar?

A pair of driving lights is the classic choice and mounts neatly on a bull bar. A light bar gives a lot of output in one unit. Both work well, so it often comes down to your vehicle, your budget and the look you want.

Wiring and the law

Auxiliary lights must be wired to come on only with high beam and to switch off with low beam, and they need to be aimed correctly so you do not dazzle other drivers. Proper wiring with a relay and fuse protects your electrics and keeps the setup legal.

We supply, fit and wire driving lights and light bars correctly and legally. Talk to our auto electrical and 4WD team at our Stepney workshop, an easy run from Norwood, or book a time.
